Working to Make Massachusetts Great Again

Donate to Committee to Elect Rich Bastien

One year ago we kicked off my campaign for State Representative. I promised to fight for lower taxes, smaller government, fiscal restraint, and personal responsibility on Beacon Hill. I'm proud to have co-sponsored legislation to lower the income tax to the level you voted for over 10 years ago, lower the sales tax back to 5% in order to make us more competitive with other states, and introduce legislation to ensure applicants sign under the penalty of perjury when the seek taxpayer benefits in order to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse in the system.

Every time we watch the evening news, we are reminded of the abuse of power with which one party rule can bring. Many of the reforms and new-found fiscal responsibility of our state legislature is because of the voter's response to the unchallenged accumulation of power by the status-quo of the past and their recognition of it in the 2010 elections by their doubling of the number of Republican Representatives on Beacon Hill. As a result, this is the first budget in many years in which neither fees or taxes will be increased.

As a new member of the House, myself and my new colleagues have large targets on our backs. We refuse to be part of the "go along to get along" culture that has pervaded and perverted state government for far too long. In order to be fully prepared for the 2012 election, I have decided to begin my fundraising efforts. We ran a remarkable campaign last year. Including spending by outside groups, we were outspent by a 5-1 margin. We ran one of the most efficient campaigns in recent history, and won a victory for common sense government. In 2012, it will be even more difficult as special interest groups target those that seek to disrupt their gravy train. My goal is that strong fundraising reports in June and December will show the strong support I have with the people in the towns of Ashburnham, Ashby, Royalston, Winchendon, and the city of Gardner.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about my campaign or any issue. Thank you for your time and for your support!
